Directory Manager
The following overview is based on the front and backend management that the site user and site administrator will enjoy.
(NB: The following is the system standard and will be tailored to the specific client requirement)
.: DIRECTORY MANAGER - Front End User Area
The directory management facility enables site users to search for company listings using a dynamic search panel. Site users have the ability to search for information by using a structured search method which would include the following search functions:
Search by:
- Industry Sector
- Name
- Location
- Keyword
Once the site user has selected their search criteria they will be required to press the search button which will then direct the user through to the search results page and display the results that match their search criteria.
The results page contains a pagination facility to ensure if more than ‘X’ results are found the system will display the relevant number of pages and these page numbers will be clickable to enable the user to navigate the search results. In addition there would also be a next / previous option for site users to use.
On the search results page it is recommended that the user will have the ability to select how many results per page they wish to view. This is controlled from a drop down menu and once the user has selected the required number the page will refresh and display the selected amount.
The system will show abbreviated company information and give overview information for each match. Once the user locates a listing that may be of interest they will have the ability to click the ‘more info’ button which will either open a pop-up page or direct them through to the details page where the full information on the listing will be displayed for them to view. In addition at this point the user will also have the ability to click the website link and be taken through to the companies website.
From this point the user will have the ability to generate a printable version of the details or input their email address for the information to be sent to them by email. If the latter option is selected the system will email the user immediately with the detailed information.
In addition to the printable and email option the user will have the ability to choose the ‘save’ option, this will save the details of the result into their user account for future use.
.: USER REGISTRATION AND PROFILING
All visitors to the website will have the ability to create a user account within the Directory system. Site users will be required to complete the registration form in full and once complete the user will be required to press the ‘submit’ button which will write their details to the user database and direct the user through to the sign in page.
Once users have become members of the system they will have the ability to profile their requirements within their user management account. This will enable users to select for example that they looking for: Graphic Design, Manchester.
Once the user has created their profile choices the system will alert them to new companies that have been added to the site since they last logged in that match their profile selection.
.: DIRECTORY MANAGER - Backend Site Administration Area
The Directory Manager software is designed to ensure all aspects of the management of the website are able to be handled in house by the site administrator. The private area of the website is called Site Manager and requires a username and password to gain entry.
The directory management software package enables admin to fully manage all aspects of the directory database in real-time. Admin has the ability to add / remove and update listings as and when required with the ability to ‘hide’ a record if required.
As admin wishes to add a listing to the website they will be required to complete the company record in full, admin will be required to input:
Company Name
Address Details
Telephone
Fax
Email
Website Address
Specialist Areas (Up to 10 bullet points)
Associated Keywords
Industry Category - Multiple categories can be assigned to enable businesses that operate within a number of sectors to be located accordingly via the search panel.
Map Link This will enable the admin to specify the link to a 3rd Party site such as www.multimap.com
Once admin has input the details they will simply press the update button which will write the company information to the database.

Within the directory management facility is the ability for admin to fully manage the business classifications. Admin has the ability to add / remove and update classification categories and once created these categories will be available for admin to assign company listings to.
